Beyond Memorization: Teaching Anatomy & Physiology for Deep Understanding
1
For high school and college educators who want to bring the wonder of human biology to life in their classrooms. In this workshop, you'll explore practical strategies for designing lessons, cases, and assessments that help students think through biological systems beyond rote memorization.
Participants will:
Identify common learning barriers in anatomy and physiology
Explore approaches for building conceptual understanding of complex biological systems
Learn strategies for integrating case-based and applied learning
From Student to Educator: Preparing Graduate Teaching Assistants for the Classroom
2
Graduate teaching assistants play a central role in student learning, and deserve real preparation for that role. This workshop helps institutions support GTAs as developing educators by focusing on practical teaching strategies, student engagement, and confidence-building in the classroom or lab.
Participants will:
Develop foundational teaching practices for discussion sections and labs
Learn strategies for facilitating active learning and responding to common challenges
Connect teaching practice to their broader development as scholars
Build It Backwards: Designing Transformative Learning Experiences Using Logic Modeling
3
Great courses are intentionally designed around learning outcomes and applications that are relevant to students’ goals and lived experiences. This workshop helps educators use logic modeling as a complementary mechanism to backward design, aligning learning outcomes, activities, and assessments to the desired impact of a course in a students’ academic journey.
Participants will:
Clarify meaningful learning outcomes for their courses
Use logic models to map how learning experiences lead to outcomes
Identify opportunities to integrate real-world applications into course design
